Language Loss | An Inheritance of Separation
Language Loss: An Inheritance of Separation is a collaboration between Nadia López García, Maricruz Vargas Ramirez and myself. This folio is part of a forthcoming artist book about the influence of language and translation upon personal, cultural, social and psychological identity, with a specific focus on Indigenous Mexican languages, Spanish and English as spoken in Mexico and the United States. The folio features a poem, The Way of the Deer, by Nadia López García, originally composed in Tu'un Savi and Spanish with English translation by Gabriela Ramirez-Chavez and Whitney DeVos. It also includes historical and sociological framework by Maricruz Vargas Ramirez.
Digitally designed & handbound as a modified flag book structure by me, with letterpress printing on Somerset Book paper by Dina Pollack. Produced in an edition of 75 for the CODEX Foundation’s Acts of Translation 2025 Assembly Exchange, which can be purchased here.
